Usage Data in Totango via CSV

In order to upload usage data to Totango, you need a CSV file wherein the usage data is clearly and cleanly defined. Each activity item (that is, each time a customer does something you want to track) needs to be represented by one row in the CSV file. In this example, we can clearly see the csv file populated with the relevant parameters. The specific parameters Totango needs to upload usage data are Account ID, User ID, Module, Activity and Timestamp. Totango requires that a timestamp is included, the timestamp is not currently used, the event will be registered when the file is uploaded. **The timestamp is not a means to send us historical data.**

You have a CSV file, which contains the key columns: Account ID, User ID, Module, Activity and Timestamp. The Timestamp should be in ISO 8601 standard specifically: yyyy-mm-ddThh:mm:ss.sZ

Format: The CSV file needs to be saved in a MS-DOS Comma Separated (.csv) file.

Step 1:

Go to your Totango instance and click on Settings > "Integration Hub". On the top right section is a button marked "+ Add Data". Select this button and click on "usage data" from the drop down menu.

Step 2:

In this example, since we're doing a one time pull, select the left "one time data upload" box and click on continue in the bottom right.

Step 3:

Click the browse button and find the file containing your usage data.

If the file contains new users or new accounts click on for Allow new account creation. If the file contains new actions/module names then click on for the Allow new attribute creation. Click on continue.

Step 4:

A display will appear, asking you to map the columns in your csv file to Totango parameters.  Totango parameters are represented on the left, the dropdowns on the right are column headers from your file. Click Continue.

Step 5:

A final display will appear asking you to preview and confirm the data is appropriately matched. You can preview the values for the first row in your csv file. Click on submit to push the usage data to Totango.

Congrats! You have pushed usage data to Totango. Depending on the amount of data you have it could take 10 minutes to 2 hours.
